Sorry this is a couple days late - I had to catch up on sleep after this weekend of cakes! The first cake of the weekend was for a bridal shower. I have to share the romantic story behind it .... the theme of the cake was "And sparks flew" because the couple said they felt sparks after their first kiss. How cute, right? The cake is chocolate chip and white, and covered in fondant discs. The discs have clouds of sprinkles and glitters to look like sparks. Best wishes to the couple!
The other cake was for my sister's Sweet Sixteen extravaganza. Note to self - don't chaperone 80 high schoolers after staying up all night making a cake! The party was a peacock theme. The four tier cake was French vanilla, white, and pound.

It was a busy weekend in the kitchen! Three new cakes to check out. The first was for a retirement surprise party. The honoree has been a dedicated St. Thomas the Apostle School knight for many years - the knight statue on top of the cake is wearing her trademark fuzzy slippers. The green, yellow, and white number is pound, chocolate chip, and white cake with buttercream icing. The next cake was a bridal shower, and the light blush color and floral bouquet were inspired by Sylvia Weinstock. The bouquet is all handmade gum paste flowers. They include roses, chrysanthemums, hydrangeas, tulips, and an orchid. The cake was almond pound, with a light lemon glaze and buttercream, as well as chocolate chip. Showers of Happiness! And last but not least, it was my dad's birthday! I made a nautical theme cake because we love to hit the water! The carrot cake is covered in water-like fondant, icing detaile waves, ropes, and a happy birthday life ring. Check back next weekend for my sister's Sweet 16 extravaganza (and I mean BIG!!) cake, and a festive fireworks bridal shower cake! |
